Another important iconic New York shot is one of Bateman crossing the street in front of the Twin Towers in Manhattan.
Patrick says, “Here, kitty kitty!”

Patrick shoots the woman instead and tosses the kitten aside. According to the American Humane Association’s website the trainer was off-camera to catch the kitten.

A psychopath and the Female Gaze

The use of music and close ups during his psychotic breakdown really impacted the film in a positive way. During the extreme close up of Patrick Bateman, we see the great use of shadows casted on the character’s face. His entire face is clearly present but the lighting really helps emphasize the clear sense of panic and hysteria in his eyes. In some ways he looks a bit hopeless. I found this to be quite ironic especially since he states that he does not feel any other emotions other than disgust and greed.
